1. Overview

TideStrike (“we”, “us”, or “our”) provides a South Florida fishing intelligence platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use TideStrike, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using TideStrike you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your name and email address. Passwords are hashed with industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text.

Fishing reports & forum posts

Content you post — catch reports, photos, comments, and community posts — is stored and displayed publicly on the platform. Do not include personally sensitive information in public posts.

Bait reports

When you submit a bait sighting through the live heatmap, we record the GPS coordinates, bait type, intensity, timestamp, and your account identifier. This data is used to generate the bait activity map visible to all users. Reports older than 24 hours are removed from the live map and retained in aggregate analytics only.

Uploaded images & media

Images and videos you upload are stored on Vercel Blob storage. We do not process or sell uploaded media. You retain ownership; by uploading you grant TideStrike a non-exclusive license to display the content on the platform.

Location permissions

The map and bait heatmap request your device's GPS location in your browser. Location access is optional and used only to center the map or pre-fill a report pin. We do not track your location in the background.

Usage & analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous page-view and performance data. This data does not include personally identifiable information and is used solely to improve the platform.

Cookies & sessions

We use secure, HTTP-only session cookies for authentication (managed by Better Auth). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.

3. How We Use Your Information

Provide, maintain, and improve TideStrike features
Display your public posts and bait reports to the community
Send account-related emails (password reset, email verification)
Detect and prevent spam or abuse
Generate anonymous analytics to understand platform usage

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Community-Generated Content

TideStrike is a community platform. Content submitted by users — including catch reports, bait sightings, photos, forum posts, and location pins — is user-generated and not verified by TideStrike. We are not responsible for the accuracy of community content. Users who post misleading, harmful, or spam content may have their accounts suspended.

5. Third-Party Services

NOAA Tides & Currents API — tide and weather data; no personal data shared
OpenStreetMap / Leaflet — map tiles; no personal data shared
Vercel — hosting, analytics, and blob storage; governed by Vercel's privacy policy
Neon — database hosting; data stored in the US

6. Data Retention

Account data is retained as long as your account is active. You may request account deletion by contacting us (see Section 9). Deleted accounts have their personal information removed within 30 days; community posts may be retained in anonymised form. Live bait reports are purged from the active map after 24 hours.

7. Security

We use HTTPS for all data in transit, HTTP-only session cookies, and parameterised database queries to prevent injection attacks. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password for your account.

8. Children's Privacy

TideStrike is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Your Rights & Contact

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. To make a request or ask questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@tidestrike.app.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of TideStrike after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
